Intrinsic Engagement & XP Design
A masterclass on deep engagement: why people keep playing, and how to design the XP that keeps them there.
L&D, instructional and product designers building programs people need to come back to.
Co-taught with Roman Rackwitz of Engaginglab. Roman covers the implicit side: motivation, behavior, why people care. I cover the explicit side: the monsters, friends and punches that turn that motivation into a journey, and the XP design that holds it together.
Small by design: 18 participants at most, and no more than 3 from the same company, so every prototype gets real attention.
You'll leave able to
- Design an XP and progression system from a blank page
- Separate explicit mechanics (cool monsters, friends, punches) from intrinsic drivers
- Build a working prototype and get expert feedback on it
- Earn a certificate of completion
How it runs
- Four 3-hour working sessionsIntrinsic motivation and behavior design with Roman; explicit game design and XP with Bernardo
- One 2-hour feedback sessionPresent your prototype and get it reviewed
